Wales wing Johnny McNicholl is set to miss the remainder of the Guinness Six Nations as well as the inaugural Autumn Nations Cup as he recovers from an ankle injury.

The Scarlets star picked up the knock in the closing stages of last weekend’s European Challenge Cup quarter-final defeat at Toulon last weekend

Scarlets have now confirmed he will be unavailable for the next eight weeks, making him unlikely to feature in the Autumn Nations Cup tournament.

The 30-year-old, who is equally comfortable at wing or full-back, made his first Wales appearance in the non-capped game with the Barbarians in November 2019 and scored a try.

He has since gone on to win four Test caps, all of which came in the Guinness Six Nations at the start of the year.

In brighter news for Wales, McNicholl’s Scarlets teammate Leigh Halfpenny is back in full training after leaving the field in the 11-6 loss to Toulon for a head injury assessment.

Halfpenny has since completed all the return to play protocols and will hope to feature for his country when they conclude their Guinness Six Nations campaign against Scotland on October 31 at Parc y Scarlets.
