Owen Farrell believes England are just getting started after being crowned 2020 Guinness Six Nations champions at the conclusion of an absorbing Super Saturday.
The Red Rose secured a 34-5 bonus-point victory against Italy in Rome thanks to a brace from Ben Youngs and further tries from Jamie George, Tom Curry and Henry Slade.
Eddie Jones’ men then had to wait and watch as France defeated Ireland 35-27 in Paris to hand England their third Championship title in five years on points difference from Les Bleus.
And after highlighting his side’s blend of youth and experience – with four players making their debuts at the Stadio Olimpico – Farrell promised this is just the beginning for England.
“It was an enjoyable game to watch obviously,” Farrell told the BBC after the game in Paris. “It got to a point where it seemed like it was going our way and thankfully it did.
“[Eddie Jones] has been brilliant. The best thing I can say is that we all love being here, we all love being in camp, we all love working hard to improve and hopefully you see that on the field.
“It feels like we’re just getting started. We had four new caps today and someone has got their 100th cap in Ben [Youngs] while Jamie [George] got his 50th cap.
“We feel like we have a brilliant blend of experience and youth to drive us forward. Being involved in training over the past few weeks has shown that to us.
“We’re looking forward to what’s in front of us as well.”
England are due to fly home on Sunday morning before being awarded the Championship trophy at a presentation at their training base at the Lensbury club in Teddington.
Jonny Hill, Tom Dunn, Ollie Lawrence and Ollie Thorley all won their first caps for England against Italy but it was the experience of Youngs that ultimately proved decisive.
The scrum-half scored at the start of each half to help England to victory as he became only the second centurion in the country’s history after Jason Leonard.
“I’m chuffed for him,” Farrell added when asked about Youngs’ achievement. “Obviously, it’s a huge achievement to reach 100 caps, only the second person ever to do it for England – it’s massive.
“To have such a good game like he did and now to top it off with the trophy is brilliant.”
