After tasting victory in the 2020 Guinness Six Nations, Owen Farrell is hungry for more success on the international stage and has already targeted this month’s Autumn Nations Cup.
After the tension of Super Saturday, Farrell was the man to lift the trophy aloft after a 34-5 win over Italy edged out France on points difference, to give them their first Championship crown since 2017.
That success has only whet the appetite for the Saracens fly-half, who believes there is a lot more to come from his compatriots, with the inaugural Autumn Nations Cup the perfect platform for them to continue their recent glory.
“It is important to kick on. Definitely. Obviously winning a trophy is a by-product of that,” the England captain said. “That’s really exciting moving forward into this next competition and through to next weekend.
“It was good to get another trophy with this group and perform as we did throughout the Six Nations, but now is the time to look ahead and really get stuck into it.”
England will face Georgia, Ireland and Wales during the Autumn Nations Cup, and will get things started this Saturday when Levan Maisashvili brings his side to Twickenham for the first time since 2011.
The match against the Lelos will be followed by a clash with Ireland, as Eddie Jones’ side look to replicate the 24-12 victory they enjoyed earlier in the year against the same opponents, in what promises to be a full-throttle affair.
England will finish the group stage with a trip to Llanelli to face Wales, before a final weekend of action that could see them face off against France, in a repeat of the 2020 Guinness Six Nations thriller from the opening weekend.
With this in mind, Farrell is confident his side will keep their foot on the gas heading into the end of the year, and expects even more to come from his teammates in the future.
“Winning trophies is an outcome of making sure the boys come in and get together and kick on as a group,” Farrell said.
“I feel like we are going in that direction, the most exciting thing is that we still have loads more left in us.
“The most exciting thing about the performance against Italy was that I thought we prepared really well and we got some big bits right but at the same time it felt as if there was a lot more in us. A lot more.”
