Louis Rees-Zammit has won the Guinness Six Nations Try of the Round award for the second successive week thanks to his magnificent chip and chase in victory over Scotland.

The winger took the honour thanks to his try in Wales’ win over Ireland last week and his tally for the Championship became three with two excellent efforts in the BT Murrayfield success.

But it was the second that stood out most of all in a dramatic Round 2 of the Guinness Six Nations, earning him the gong in back-to-back weeks.

Wales were behind on the scoreboard in the closing 15 minutes but Rees-Zammit – who already boasted a try and assist to his name – took the bull by the horns to win the match for Wayne Pivac’s side.

Gathering the ball on the right flank, the 20-year-old breezed past fellow wing Duhan van der Merwe – hardly among the slower players on the BT Murrayfield pitch.

He still had lots to do but did so with aplomb, combining touch with execution and superb awareness to kick the ball over the top of Stuart Hogg and chase down what proved to be the match-winning score.

Speed and skill in abundance had fellow players and pundits alike gushing with praise, and the fans watching on at home were certainly impressed.

Rees-Zammit racked up 56.2% of the votes cast, more than 5,000 clear of any other player nominated for Try of the Round this week.

Second place went to England’s Jonny May, whose breath-taking, flying finish against Italy at Twickenham earned him 31.2% of the vote.

Evading the challenge of Luca Sperandio was one task in itself but wing May had plenty more work to do, showing his athletic prowess to dot down before falling into touch.

Twickenham also played host to another Try of the Round contender with Monty Ioane’s score receiving 5.4% of the fans’ vote.

Jacopo Trulla drew in his opposite number Elliot Daly before finding Ioane, who stepped on the gas to leave the England defence in his wake and cross in the left corner.

Just one try was scored in the first half in Dublin but what a score it was in France’s win over Ireland, voted for by 7.2% of fans.

France continue to be a delight to watch and they proved why at the Aviva Stadium, Charles Ollivon the man to touch down after great work from Gael Fickou, Matthieu Jalibert and Antoine Dupont in a scything attacking move.
