Jack Willis has vowed to get back to his best once again after the England flanker underwent surgery to his left knee following an injury sustained against Italy.
The 24-year-old came off the bench in his side’s Guinness Six Nations encounter against the Azzurri in Round 2 to score a try as the Red Rose triumphed 41-18.
But his participation in the contest was ended just six minutes after being introduced in the second half when the Wasps star suffered an injury at the breakdown at Twickenham.
While Wasps head coach Lee Blackett said the injury was not as bad as it could have been, he did confirm that it was a “significant injury” and expected Willis to be out for a long time.
But Willis took to social media on Thursday after undergoing surgery on his knee to post pictures of himself in a hospital bed and on crutches outside, alongside a positive message.
He wrote: “Done it once, I’ll do it again! Recovery starts now…”
It is the second major knee injury Willis, who has three Red Rose caps to his name, has suffered in his career after rupturing his ACL – in his right knee – in 2018.
That injury came only days after being selected for Eddie Jones’ England squad to tour South Africa that summer but Willis made a full recovery as he rose to stardom at Wasps.
Willis, who made his England debut against Georgia in November, went on to be named the RPA Players’ Player of the Year last season after guiding Wasps to the English Premiership final in October.
