A bet’s a bet – just ask England full-back Mike Brown.
Wales’ sensational 40-24 Round 3 win over England not only moved Wayne Pivac’s men one step closer to the Guinness Six Nations title, but it has also resulted in Brown having to sport a Wales jersey at Harlequins training for the week!
Captured in photographic evidence on Brown’s Twitter page – the sight of his stony-faced expression will no doubt delight Wales fans, with the 35-year-old Quins man a former villain of the piece when the two sides would meet.
And it is all courtesy of a bet between Brown and his club teammate Scott Baldwin, with the pair agreeing that if England won the Round 3 clash at Principality Stadium then Baldwin would have to sport the Red Rose jersey in training and vice versa.
Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Brown said: “The defeat has cost me a week in a Wales jersey, courtesy of my Harlequins team-mate Scott Baldwin!
“He is a proud Welshman and we made a little bet that the loser has to wear the opposition shirt for a week.
“Fair play to Wales because they put in a hell of a shift.
“Their forwards muscled up, the backs took their opportunities and their pressure forced England to give away penalties. I’m sure the photograph of me in a red jersey will find its way out.”
Brown has enjoyed his fair share of tough Six Nations tussles with Wales down the years but going through with the forfeit for this bet may rank as one of the hardest things he’s done.
And he’s not alone, with former England captain Will Carling also losing a bet with Tour de France winner and Olympic gold medallist Geraint Thomas – subsequently having to pose with a daffodil in his mouth.
“I got to know Geraint when he came on a few rides I organised for clients,” Carling said.
“He is a great guy. We usually have a bet on the game. This year it was either a rose or a daffodil in gritted teeth. I lost, as you can see!”
