Beatrice Rigoni believes Italy’s convincing win over Scotland sets them up perfectly for sustained success moving forward.

The Azzurre impressed in a 41-20 victory at Scotstoun that guaranteed them second spot in Pool A and set up a match against Ireland for third spot in the 2021 Women’s Six Nations on Super Saturday.

Rigoni was named Women’s Six Nations Player of the Match after a two-try display in which she also made 111 metres on 14 carries, completed 12 tackles and broke an incredible six tackles of her own as she consistently gave her side forward momentum.

And the centre was understandably delighted by the performance her team put in.

“I feel very good about the win,” she said. “It’s been a hard year but this was a good start for us in terms of the future and our future objectives.

“The difference was our group, our strength and when we decided together to take the match forward.”

Meanwhile, Italy skipper Manuela Furlan put in a captain’s performance as she crossed for a hat-trick and made an incredible 188 metres on 15 carries.

And with the crunch match against Ireland now just a week away, Furlan is eager for the Azzurre to maintain the high standards they set in Glasgow.

“We’re very satisfied with the victory obviously,” said Furlan. “The next challenge will be repeating this. It was a good game and we played well.

“It will be another battle next week [against Ireland], as it was today. It was a battle in every area of the field, every scrum, every part but we got through it.”
