Steve Borthwick has named his first England squad ahead of the 2023 Guinness Six Nations with five uncapped players included in the squad.

Northampton Saints fly-half Fin Smith will join up with the side for the first time, having impressed for England Under-20s in previous seasons.

He joins wingers Ollie Hassell-Collins and Cadan Murley and hookers Jack Walker and George McGuigan in hoping to earn a first Test cap.

There are also returns to the squad for Saracens duo Ben Earl and Elliot Daly, with Courtney Lawes back from injury, while Owen Farrell is also in despite currently serving a three-match suspension.

England will begin their Championship campaign at home to Scotland on February 4, hoping for a first win in the Calcutta Cup since 2020.

And Borthwick is has asked for commitment from his players as they look to get off to a flying start.

Borthwick said: “This is an exciting squad, with a blend of Six Nations experience and young talent, and includes players who are in excellent form in the Premiership.

“We are all looking forward to the challenges of the Six Nations and we will approach this great tournament with a spirit of courage and total commitment.

“I know the players can’t wait to get back to Twickenham and give our fans a performance they can be proud of.

“The hard work for the Scotland game starts now.”
