Ireland captain Johnny Sexton will miss his side’s final Autumn Nations Series fixture against Argentina after being ruled out for four to six weeks.
Fly-half Sexton twisted his knee and ankle in the 29-20 victory over New Zealand on Saturday and was forced from the field of play with 15 minutes still remaining at the Aviva Stadium.
The 36-year-old was replaced by Joey Carbery who is in line to start against Los Pumas on Sunday after kicking three late penalties to help secure a third victory in five outings against the All Blacks.
Connacht No.10 Jack Carty has also been called up by Andy Farrell for the final week of the Autumn Nations Series.
Sexton won his 100th cap in the 60-5 win over Japan in Ireland’s opening fixture and will remain in camp with the squad to help prepare for the visit of Mario Ledesma’s side.
Ireland last hosted Argentina in 2018 and they will be hoping for a similar result this weekend, having triumphed 28-17 on that occasion.
Farrell has also welcomed back-rower Gavin Coombes back into the squad after he missed last week through illness.
