Wales winger Josh Adams will miss the rest of the Guinness Six Nations because of an ankle injury sustained in the home defeat to France on Saturday.

Adams, who scored a hat-trick against Italy in Round 1, fell awkwardly while being tackled by Les Bleus’ Virimi Vakatawa during the 27-23 defeat.

The 24-year-old will now have surgery and has been ruled out for the next 12 weeks, which will see him miss Wales’ two remaining fixtures.

The defending champions are away at England in Round 4 and finish the Championship at home to Scotland.

A WRU statement said: “Josh Adams will play no further part in the 2020 Guinness Six Nations following an ankle injury sustained in the match against France.

“He is due to have surgery this week and it is envisaged that he could return in 12 weeks for the latter stages of the Guinness PRO14.”

Wales could face a dilemma on the wing, with George North also forced off against France after he failed a head injury assessment.

Liam Williams is yet to play in the 2020 Championship due to an ankle injury picked up at the World Cup last year, but did take part in Wales’ warm-up last weekend.

That could lead to a first cap for Gloucester Rugby’s 19-year-old Louis Rees-Zammit, while other options include Johnny McNicholl, Hallam Amos and Jonah Holmes.

Wales have lost two games from three in the 2020 Championship, the first under new head coach Wayne Pivac.
