Wales fly-half Dan Biggar admits his side still have areas to improve on despite claiming a record breaking 74-24 victory over Tonga at the Principality Stadium.

The Northampton Saints number 10 pulled the strings by scoring 19 points in the autumn showdown as Wales secured an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since 2005.

With the scores level at 24-24 early in the second-half, the home side hit back with 50 unanswered points to claim a record winning margin.

But Biggar believes his side still have room to improve when they face South Africa next Saturday in their final November Test match.

“We’re reasonably happy with that performance. We started the game well and dug in and brought it back,” he said.

“I think defensively Shaun Edwards is going to be disappointed, but ultimately it’s a good result to score 74 points and win a game comfortably in the end.

“We scored some good tries and essentially the basics of our game were very good today. You have to do that well against any team in international rugby.”

When Tongan Sione Vailanu levelled the game just two minutes into the second half, Wales sparked into life by scoring seven unanswered tries courtesy of Steff Evans, Tomos Williams and Tyler Morgan.

Cory Hill and Liam Williams added two more, before a stunning team move led to Aled Davies scoring his first international try.

Rhys Patchell capped off a perfect outing for Warren Gatland’s men by running half the length of the field to touch down in style.

The performance had Wales captain Ellis Jenkins gushing and he has now challenged his side to go one better and beat the Springboks next Saturday.

He said: “It showed how much the boys want to play.

“It was a bit of a tussle, especially early on in the second half when they started throwing everything at us.

“We have been talking all week about tiring them down and everything panned out exactly how we thought.

“It was tough for us, but we made it tougher for them.

“We want to win every game, especially when we’re on this run we are on now.

“Hopefully we can go on and complete the clean sweep.”
