Gregor Townsend has been handed a boost with the return of front-row pair Fraser Brown and Murray McCallum ahead of the second round of the Guinness Six Nations.

Scotland currently sit top of the Championship table after one round of action, following their 33-20 bonus-point success over Italy on Saturday.

But Townsend found himself very short of experience at hooker, with first-choice Stuart McInally joined by three uncapped hookers in the squad.

Jake Kerr made his debut against the Azzurri but now recovered from injury, Brown adds another experienced option up front.

He is joined by McCallum, who provides cover with WP Nel recovering from a calf strain he suffered against Italy.

Meanwhile, Scotland flanker Sam Skinner has returned to club Exeter for further assessment of the ankle he injured early in the encounter at BT Murrayfield.

Scotland will look to make it two wins from two when they entertain Ireland in Edinburgh in round two.
