Italy coach Giampiero De Carli admits they need to convert their opportunities into points when they take on France in the Guinness Six Nations on Sunday.

The Azzurri were beaten 42-0 by reigning Grand-Slam champions Wales in Cardiff on the opening weekend.

Italy’s forward coach De Carli, who won 32 caps for Italy between 1996 and 2003, insists work is being done behind the scenes to ensure an improvement when they face France in Paris.

“The video analysis is important to assess whether the team managed to implement the prepared game plan,” said De Carli.

“In any case, we try to point out the positive things and those a little less where we need to go to correct.

“Even if you cannot reach the objective, you have the possibility next time to go and improve some situations that have not worked at best.

“This is the real goal of video analysis.”

Reflecting on their defeat in Cardiff, De Carli says that missed opportunities were to blame for the final score, something which he believes Italy can ill afford not to take.

“It was a tough game and it will be for all the teams that will play against Wales,” the former prop continued.

“We had good opportunities to put points on the scoreboard and we didn’t take advantage of them. We have to be more clinical.

“At this level, in a tournament like the Six Nations, every action can have its importance.”

Italy, who arrived in the French capital on Monday, will announce their matchday squad on Friday.
