George North has extended his spell at the Ospreys after signing a new dual contract with the region and Wales as he continues his rehab from injury.

The 29-year-old is currently working his way back from a serious knee injury which ruled him out of this summer’s British & Irish Lions Tour.

He had forced his way into contention after a standout Guinness Six Nations campaign in which he excelled in the centres as Wales claimed the title.

North, who is now back running, has extended his contract for a further two years and is delighted with how things have gone at the Ospreys.

He said: “It’s an honour to play for Wales and something I never take for granted, my focus now is to get back fit and playing again. “I have enjoyed my first few years here at the Ospreys so I’m chuffed to be extending my time here in Wales. “The club are looking to the future and I’m looking forward to playing my role in helping the club to push on this year.”

Having spent most of his career on the wing, North switched to outside centre this year with Wales.

And he was influential in their 2021 Championship success under the leadership of Wayne Pivac.

The former Scarlets boss was thrilled to know that North will be remaining in Wales for the foreseeable future.

“We’re delighted George is continuing his career in Wales,” said Pivac.

“He was absolutely integral to our Six Nations Championship win last season.

“We all know what he has achieved playing on the wing and he has added to that with some world-class performances playing at outside centre for his country.

“He has amassed a huge amount of international experience at a relatively young age and I look forward to working with him in the future.”
