With two rounds of Pick 4 behind us, we now have had a good opportunity to study what kind of player ticks the Pick 4 boxes of Kicker, Defender, Ball Carrier and Superstar.
For kicker, Finn Russell, has lead the way with distance kicked, as well as contributing drop goals, 50-22, penalties and conversions (and a player of the match to boot!) so he is the obvious choice, but also in contention are Ross Byrne, who should notch plenty of points on Saturday, and Thomas Ramos who combines being France’s first choice kicker with regular metres kicked points from fullback.
There have been some monumental defensive performances so far in the tournament, but there are three players I will be primarily considering for the Defender spot in Round 3.
Firstly, Danilo Fischetti. The Italian prop gets through a huge amount of work, and with 43% of his tackles as dominant tackles in Round Two, will surely score highly again in what should be a busy afternoon for the Italian defence.
Elsewhere, the two standouts in terms of tackles recorded are Matt Fagerson and Thibaud Flament, and they should feature heavily in many Pick 4 teams.
For Ball Carrier I am looking closely at Anthony Jelonch. A massive performance in both matches, but against Ireland, not only did he assist Damian Penaud with one brilliant break away run, but Jelonch also picked up 58 metres from his back row position. He fits all the hard carrying characteristics needed for the Ball Carrier pick.
For the Superstar, you need an elite attacking threat. This week it is a toss-up for me between James Lowe and Hugo Keenan. Both have been in outstanding form, and Keenan in particular has excellent past form against Italy, but I am leaning towards James Lowe for his increased try threat.
My Pick 4 team for Round Three
Kicker: Finn Russell (Scotland)
Defender: Danilo Fischetti (Italy)
Ball Carrier: Anthony Jelonch (France)
Superstar: James Lowe (Ireland)
