Scotland are one of four teams with a won two, lost two record heading into the final weekend of matches but sit fifth in the table on points difference.

Their opponents in round five are Italy who have lost all four of their games in this year’s Championship including a 38-14 defeat to Wales on Sunday.

The two sides meet at Stadio Olimpico in Rome in the first of three Championship games on Super Saturday with kick-off at 12.30pm GMT.

Hogg tweeted: “Bitterly disappointed with how yesterday ended. We had a number of opportunities that we didn’t execute, myself included.

“Credit to Ireland, champions for a reason & congratulations to them. Looking to finish off the NatWest 6 Nations on a high this weekend.”

Scotland were beaten 28-8 by Ireland on Saturday but their women’s side secured their first win of this year’s Championship with a 15-12 success in Dublin.

Helen Nelson and Chloe Rollie got the tries for Scotland with Hogg adding: “Huge congrats to Scotland Women on a cracking victory over in Ireland. Well done.”
