No decision has been made whether Danny Cipriani will tour with England to Argentina, revealed team manager Martin Johnson.

The London Wasps fly-half may have to undergo an operation he needs to have a four-inch pin removed from his ankle.

Cipriani could conceivably come into British & Irish Lions contention if one of the two front-line stand-offs Stephen Jones and Ronan O’Gara gets injured.

Johnson said: “I spoke to Danny last week in particular about where he is. He got the final game of the season out of the way and we will catch up with him again to find out where he is medically.

“He has got this metalwork in his ankle. There is a school of thought about getting it out but we will see.

“We know what the situation is and what the possible calls can be. It is a question of getting the information, Danny’s opinion and Wasps’ opinion.”

Johnson would also not be drawn on his plans for Jonny Wilkinson, who has been out of action since dislocating his knee before the autumn internationals.

“Jonny hasn’t played since getting his injury and he hasn’t got a club game to play in now. We will see,” added Johnson, who was speaking after putting Powerade competition winners Bristol University 3rd XV through their paces at Twickenham.

“It is a constant thing where these guys are with injury and their rehab. Jonny was away in the States. We know where he is and we can make our call.”
