Stuart McInally will captain a new-look Scotland squad on their summer tour of the Americas as they look to build on a strong NatWest 6 Nations campaign.

The Scots finished third in the table, including wins over both France and England – their first over the Auld Enemy in a decade.

They will now head on tour in June for three Tests against Canada, USA and Argentina, with Gregor Townsend giving a number of senior players the summer off.

As a result, Edinburgh hooker McInally takes on captaincy duties, while there are six uncapped players in the 33-man squad.

Three of those are in the forwards, Edinburgh pair Lewis Carmichael and Jamie Ritchie and Glasgow Warriors’ Matt Fagerson.

There are also call-ups for young Glasgow duo George Horne and Adam Hastings, as well as Harlequins and former Scotland Under-18s player James Lang.

Townsend said: “There are twin goals for this tour – the first is to build on the work we’ve done so far this season and finish with improved performances. We also have the Rugby World Cup in our thoughts, as this will be our last tour before we leave for Japan next year.

“Touring and staying together for four weeks and experiencing different environments will be very informative – seeing how players get on with each other, how much they improve and how they rise to each challenge we face on tour.”
