Ellis Genge has been thanked and widely praised on social media following his crucial act during England’s impressive Guinness Six Nations win over Italy on Sunday.

In the second half of the match, Italy forward Sebastian Negri suffered a heavy blow in a collision with England lock Nick Isiekwe.

This brought play to a halt, with Genge leading the way in immediately calling for the intervention of the medical staff.

The England prop realised the gravity of the situation quickly and by alerting the officials quickly helped Negri receive treatment as soon as possible.

Once stabilised, the Italian flanker was taken off the pitch by officials on a motorised cart to be given further medical attention.

England eventually ran out 33-0 winners in Rome and in the hours following the full-time whistle, Genge took to social media to post an update on Negri’s condition.

Writing on Twitter, he said: “The travelling @EnglandRugby support was amazing again, I’ve been told @slnegri04 is up and about which is the most important take away from today, enjoy al’t best, yours truly – NASA”

Earlier today, recovering from his injury, Negri tweeted his appreciation for Genge’s actions in his response.

He wrote: “Thank you so much @EllisGenge appreciate all you did. You are a top man. All good this side and feeling a lot better 👍🏼wishing you and all the @EnglandRugby lads all the best for the rest of the @SixNationsRugby. Catch up with you soon, Safe travels back home today”

Genge produced an excellent performance for Eddie Jones’ team, but it was his commendable actions relating to the health of his opponent that drew that most praise online, with rugby fans all over the world quick to praise his actions.

England firmly got their Guinness Six Nations campaign back on track against Italy, also taking home a bonus point after their convincing victory.

Guinness Six Nations Player of the Match Marcus Smith, Jamie George (twice), Elliot Daly and Kyle Sinckler all scored tries as the visitors put their opening round defeat against Scotland firmly behind them.

The result pushed England up to second in the Championship only behind unbeaten France, they host Wales in Round 3 in just under two weeks’ time on February 26.

Italy sit sixth with a trip to Ireland next up on February 27.
