Pierre Bruno has won the Guinness Six Nations Try of the Round for Round 3 of the 2023 Championship for his intercept score against Ireland in Rome.
The Italy winger popped up just before half-time as Ireland were seeking a fifth try as they tried to pull clear of their hosts.
However, off the back of an Ireland lineout just outside the Italy 22, Bruno read the set-move to perfection, racing up and picking off Bundee Aki’s pass before putting on the afterburners.
From there, Bruno’s pace was such that Josh van der Flier, the nearest Ireland defender, was never going to get near him.
Bruno sprinted under the posts and Italy were back to within a score, trailing 24-17 at the break.
That momentum remained with them into the second half, with the Azzurri within touching distance until Mack Hansen’s second try ten minutes from time.
Bruno’s try was the winner of a public vote ahead of Bundee Aki’s try in the same game, as well as Anthony Watson’s try for England in Cardiff, and Thomas Ramos’s intercept score against Scotland in Paris.
