England scrum-half Harry Randall made his Guinness Six Nations debut in their 33-0 win over Italy in Rome in what he described as an ‘awesome’ experience.

The Bristol Bears scrum-half impressed in what was just his third England cap, with an eye-catching incisive break early in the second half encapsulating everything that he is about.

He said: “It was awesome, I was saying just now, we had a good week’s prep, trained really well and we’ve got the result we wanted.

“It’s pleasing to keep them to zero, there were a few little things that frustrated us out there, but nonetheless it was a good performance.

Randall was due to make his Guinness Six Nations debut a week ago against Scotland but did not come off the bench, making this week an even sweeter moment.

“It’s been a bit of a dream come true, playing in a big Guinness Six Nations game out here in Italy, it’s been really good and I’ve loved every minute.”

And Randall associates his excellent performance to those around him, citing the experienced players in the squad, who prepared him in the week.

He added: “It’s credit to the team around me and a lot of experienced players helping me out, especially through the week.

“I can’t thank them enough for helping me settle in well and we put in a decent performance.”

But Randall believes that England have work to do to further improve in the coming weeks, ahead of their clash with Wales on February 26 at Twickenham, although he was aware that keeping a team to 0 points is some achievement.

“They stuck in there and we expected them to, so that’s an area we can improve on and kick-on in that second half and look at why we didn’t, so there are definitely some improvements to make there,” he said.

“We’ve done something right to do that though haven’t we, so that was very pleasing, and we can take a lot of confidence in that going forward.”
