Scotland have made five changes for their final 2018 NatWest 6 Nations game against Italy in Rome on Saturday (kick-off 12.30pm) as they look for their third Championship win.

Head coach Gregor Townsend has named the most experienced squad in the tenure of the current coaching group for the trip to the Italian capital.

With victories against France and England already under their belt, Scotland will be looking to end the campaign on a high after going down 28-8 to champions Ireland in Round Four.

Tommy Seymour has recovered from the back injury that ruled him out of the defeat in Dublin, while Glasgow Warriors centre Nick Grigg comes into the backline for his first NatWest 6 Nations start.

In the pack, hooker Fraser Brown, prop WP Nel and lock Tim Swinson have all been promoted from the bench for the game against Italy.

The return of Seymour will be particularly pleasing for Townsend, after his side missed the winger’s attacking threat as they squandered multiple chances against Ireland.

Blair Kinghorn returns to the bench as Seymour’s recovery from the injury sustained against England allows him to join Stuart Hogg and Sean Maitland in the back three.

The inclusion of Grigg sees him start alongside clubmate Huw Jones, with Pete Horne dropping to the bench. Stuart McInally is retained in the matchday 23 as Brown returns to the fold for his first start of the Championship.

Added experience will also come in the form of Swinson and Nel, who will also start for the first time in the campaign.

The starting line-up is completed by the half-back partnership of Greig Laidlaw and Finn Russell, and the back-row unit of captain John Barclay, Hamish Watson and Ryan Wilson.

Lock Jonny Gray and loosehead prop Gordon Reid also retain their place, as two of seven players to start every Test this Championship.

There are two new faces on the bench as Zander Fagerson and Richie Gray prepare to make their first appearances of the campaign.
