CJ Stander has been named Guinness Six Nations Player of the Round after his tremendous display against Wales in Round 2.

The 29-year-old has started the Championship in imperious form, and has been named Guinness Six Nations Player of the Match in both of his country’s matches so far as Ireland remain unbeaten after two rounds.

The Munster man led by example in the 24-14 victory at the Aviva Stadium, with three turnovers in the 80 minutes, as he gained his team valuable possession on numerous occasions, as well as slowing down the Welsh attack.

Stander’s performances have been a key aspect of Ireland’s play so far in the Championship, with his determination with and without the ball proving vital for Andy Farrell’s side.

Stander saw off fierce competition to take the prize, with teammate Tadhg Furlong also nominated after his try-scoring display on Saturday afternoon, as well as Sam Underhill, who was named Guinness Six Nations Player of the Match in England’s 13-6 victory over Scotland at BT Murrayfield.

Tom Curry was also in contention, as well the French pair of Antoine Dupont and Grégory Alldritt who caught the eye in France’s 35-22 victory over Italy.

Stander takes the honour after Josh Adams took the prize in Round 1 after his hat-trick of tries in Wales’ 42-0 opening day defeat of Italy at Principality Stadium.

The Ireland No.8, who started the Championship at blindside flanker before switching to his more familiar role, will hope to help Ireland extend their winning run when they travel to Twickenham to take on England in Round 3.
