A perfect afternoon off the kicking tee from Gareth Anscombe guided Wales to victory over Ireland as they confirmed the Guinness Six Nations title.

Warren Gatland’s men secured the Grand Slam as they saw off Ireland 25-7 at Principality Stadium.

Anscombe racked up 20 points, with seven successful kicks at the posts, on his way to the Guinness Six Nations Man of the Match award.

The Cardiff Blues man also had to survive the early unrest of being shifted to full-back, as he was moved from the No.10 jersey early on due to a George North injury.

Liam Williams moved to the wing, Anscombe to No.15 and Dan Biggar entered the fray to play at stand-off.

And Anscombe believes Wales were just in the winning habit – as they registered their 14th straight victory and the third Grand Slam of the Gatland era.

“It’s hard to put into words to be honest, we’ve worked incredibly hard over the last year and we have just hit a habit of winning,” he said.

“We started well today in tricky conditions and I just can’t say enough about our group. We work hard for each other.

“We wanted to enjoy it [the game against Ireland]. We are in the best stadium in the world in front of our people and we wanted to take the game to them.

“We started well and we know once you get behind in tricky conditions it is hard to come back. It’s a day and a weekend to remember for Welsh rugby.”
