An inexperienced Wales side were unable to end their season on a high after falling to a 33-11 defeat to Argentina at Principality Stadium.

The series was still up for grabs after the 20-20 draw between the two last week but the Pumas took the spoils after better execution of their skills in Cardiff.

Argentina’s Nicolas Sanchez was the key player, converting four penalties and three conversions as the away side eased to victory.

Sanchez missed the chance to open the scoring early on and Wales pounced quickly, with Jonathan Davies pushing through the defence and feeding winger Owen Lane who darted over for the first try eight minutes in.

Jarrod Evans was unable to convert the extras and the Pumas took the lead just three minutes later when Matias Moroni pushed himself over the line for Argentina’s first try. Sanchez’s conversion saw them take a 7-5 lead.

Wales had plenty of possession but gave away a penalty which Sanchez easily slotted between the posts in the 26th minute.

Sanchez was in action again just a few minutes later, converting after Tomas Cubelli bundled over for a try to build-up a 12-point lead.

A 32nd-minute Evans penalty decreased the deficit to nine points, but Wales were unable to make further inroads before half time.

Evans converted another penalty from around 40 yards out to move within six points of Argentina in the opening stages of the second half.

But Argentina quickly restored their nine-point advantage, with Sanchez converting another penalty conceded by the home side.

Hallam Amos was yellow carded in the 60th minute after clashing with Santiago Carreras in the air, with Sanchez knocking over the three points from a further infringement to put Argentina in control.

Sanchez missed for just the second time in the 72nd minute as Argentina cruised to victory, though a penalty four minutes later saw them ease to a 15-point lead.

And his conversion after Pablo Matera’s last-minute try proved to be the icing on the cake for the Pumas as they cruised to victory, with Wales missing out on a good end to their campaign.
