Liam Williams was named Guinness Six Nations Man of the Match after shining at full-back for Wales in their dramatic 21-13 win over England.

In a fierce encounter in Cardiff,  Williams was calmness personified under the high ball against a usually potent England attack, regularly averting danger while also presenting a threat in attack.

The 27-year-old Saracens back made 77 metres from 13 carries – the most of any back on the pitch – during a fantastic all-round display that earned him his latest accolade.

And speaking after the game, Man of the Match Williams revealed that hard work on the training ground had helped Warren Gatland’s side up their game and overcome the Red Rose.

“We’ve always known that we’re a great team,” he said. “We didn’t play well in the first two games so we’ve worked hard this week and the boys really dug deep.

“When they played France, they kicked quite a lot of ball, but as I said, we’ve been working hard this week.

“We’re just happy to have defused those bombs.”

Victory for Wales made it 12 games unbeaten for Gatland’s side and takes them to the top of the Guinness Six Nations table.
