In a rematch of the 2018 NatWest 6 Nations’ opening game, Wales will play against Scotland in Cardiff to kick off their Autumn internationals.
The NatWest 6 Nations runners- up will also take on Australia, Tonga and South Africa, with the tour lasting three weeks from November 3-24. Warren Gatland’s men triumphed 34-7 over Scotland in this year’s Championship in front of a sell-out crowd and the visitors will be keen to win in Cardiff for the first time since 2002, when they came away with a 27-22 victory. WRU chief executive Martyn Phillips said: “We are particularly pleased to be able to give the supporters the opportunity to attend a Scotland game. “Tickets for this game are like gold dust during the NatWest 6 Nations and we very much hope that this fixture gives supporters, who might not normally get the chance to see Wales face Scotland in an international, the opportunity to experience the unique atmosphere created against our near neighbours and friends. “The game carries with it years of tradition and rivalry which should appeal to rugby supporters across both countries and we will be encouraging a range of fixtures across the community game to reflect the history of our two great rugby nations.” Phillips also announced that the two sides would play for a new trophy, the ‘Doddie Weir Cup’, to be contested whenever Wales and Scotland play in Cardiff. Contributions will be made to the ‘My Name’s Doddie’ foundation, set up after the former Scotland and British & Irish Lions lock was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2017. It will be Australia’s 13th visit to the Principality Stadium in 14 years, with Wales looking to end a 13-game losing streak against the Wallabies, last beating the southern hemisphere side in 2008. Wales’ record against South Africa is better, having beaten the Springboks on three of the last four occasions, while Tonga are winless against the Welsh in eight attempts.
