COFFEE DATE: SILVIA TURANI

silvia turani
Azzurre and Harlequins loosehead prop Silvia Turani talks Bergamo, Ancient Greece, and going solo.

What is your favourite coffee? Espresso or Americano (but strictly black).

What are you watching on TV at the moment? Doc season 3, which when I'm in England I can't watch, and now I have to catch up on with my mum.

Who would you like to write a book about your life? Davide Barbieri [Italy S&C coach] and my brother as editors-in-chief. But then I would like each chapter written in collaboration with a different person.

Who is your best friend in rugby? The physiotherapist.

Where do you call home? Grumello del Monte, in the province of Bergamo. It's a town in the hills, there are lots of vineyards and wineries and a beautiful view. I recommend visiting there at sunset.

Bergamo, on the other hand, is divided into Upper Town and Lower Town. The former is the best: as the name suggests, it is perched on a hill and surrounded by walls. There are many churches and historical buildings, squares and piazzas, restaurants and a beautiful panorama. You can take a funicular railway up to the Upper City, which is characteristic of the place, or you can take the steps. There is also the Orio airport about ten minutes from the centre.

Bergamo is known for the "Bergamo Alta [Upper] or Bergamo Bassa [Lower]?" debate, the bricklayers, polenta, taleggio cheese and our very slight accent.

What is your ideal holiday destination? A tour of the Pacific Islands.

If you could go back in time, where would you go back to? In my life? To when I was just born because I would like to experience what it feels like to be a newborn. In time? Ancient Greece because I studied it a lot in high school and I want to see if it is what I expect it to be like.

If you wanted to be remembered for one thing, what would it be? Improving other people's lives, or helping them to be happy and generally feel better.

What's the hardest part of being a rugby player? The bronco.

And what's the best part? The life opportunities and social relationships. But also winning tight matches or matches where you're the underdog.

Which teammate would be your ideal backpacking companion? None of them. I love them all, but after two months of six countries together on the road I'm going it alone.

Wales v Italy kicks off at 12:15 this Super Saturday at Principality Stadium, Cardiff.
