Luke Morgan bagged a double and Sam Davies notched 13 points as Wales Under-20s survived a late Scotland second-half comeback to triumph 28-15 in Colwyn Bay and record their first win of the 2012 RBS 6 Nations.
Wing Morgan touched down either side of the half as Wales looked on course for a routine win with Davies slotting three penalties and two conversions and Ross Jones also scoring to make it 28-3.
However Scotland had other ideas and fought back in the last 15 minutes as Morgan’s opposite number Jamie Farndale took centre stage with a double of his own.
The damage was already done though as Wales held on for a 28-15 triumph to make up for their opening RBS 6 Nations loss to Ireland while Scotland fell to back-to-back defeats.
Scotland started the stronger of the two sides but were left to rue a slow start with the boot from captain Harry Leonard as he missed two penalties in the first five minutes.
Wales made the visitors pay soaking up pressure in the opening ten minutes and Davies kicking the first of his three penalties in the ninth minute to gives them a lead they wouldn’t surrender.
Two minutes later Wales breached the Scottish defence for the first time as full-back Jones made the most of a clever over lap to score the first try of the game.
Davies, son of Scarlets coach Nigel who was watching from the stands, missed the conversion and Scotland reacted positively to going eight points behind with Leonard kicking a penalty in the 17th minute.
Fly-half Davies returned the favour with a well-taken 40m effort nine minutes later and then in the 30th minute wing Morgan capitalised on another overlap to score his first try.
Davies converted to make it 18-3 and he then tagged on another three points with a penalty six minutes after the break before Morgan went on to record his second score of the night.
Morgan breached the Scottish defence from just outside the 22 and stormed home between the posts with Davies once again called upon to slot the conversion.
Wales appeared to be cruising with the score at 28-3 however Scotland didn’t go down without a fight as Farndale barged his way over to score his first and give them a glimmer of hope.
One try became two for Farndale shortly after as Leonard set up the wing before converting from the touchline however it was too little too late as Wales ran out victorious.
