Captain Siwan Lillicrap believes Wales’ youthful side are on the right path as they continue to develop and implement their long-term aspirations.
Wales are yet to register a win in the Women’s Six Nations this season but Lillicrap insists the squad remains positive despite suffering a 50-0 defeat to France last time out.
“This might come to a shock for people listening, but we’re feeling positive,” Lillicrap said.
“France are semi-professional and one of the best sides in the world and for a reason. They’re a big and athletic side.
“In that first 20 we fronted up and dominated a lot of possession.
“When we analyse the game the amount of tries they scored off our attacking mistakes was probably quite high.
“That’s something we can correct. If we take our opportunities we’re in a different spot.”
Born and bred in Swansea, Lillicrap made her Wales debut in the 2016 Six Nations and is regarded as a senior member of the squad.
So far in the tournament, Wales have selected youthful line-ups, with a number of players making their debuts, as they look to build squad depth and unity ahead of next year’s World Cup in New Zealand.
After more than 2,000 supporters attended Cardiff Arms Park to watch Wales’ tie with France, Lillicrap admits she is excited for the England clash at Twickenham Stoop.
And she hopes they can evolve in the same way Simon Middleton’s side have done in recent years.
“I keep reminding myself that we’re on this journey, we’re a young squad and building towards the next World Cup and beyond,” said the 32-year-old.
“When you look at our average age it’s young and they are fronting up well.
“If we can get [our attendances] up to three or four thousand then great.
“I’m excited for England. The Red Roses sold out their game against Ireland and that’s fantastic.
“The nation is getting behind them and hopefully as we develop the nation will get behind us more.”
