Social media was abuzz with reaction to an enthralling first ever Women’s Six Nations Finals Day as England defeated France to be crowned champions for a third year in a row.

That success for the Red Roses was sandwiched in between Ireland’s victory over Italy to secure third place and Scotland’s triumph over Wales in the Championship finale.

Vote for the 2021 Women’s Six Nations Player of the Championship

And as the dust settles on a dramatic conclusion to four consecutive weekends of action-packed rugby, here’s a look at some of the best reaction to Finals Day…

We start with Women’s Six Nations ambassador and England legend Maggie Alphonsi, who was among those to congratulate England on their latest Championship win.

Ugo Monye also celebrated the Red Roses’ success before giving Poppy Cleall his vote for Player of the Championship after her display in the final against France.

Speaking of the England No.8, Cleall took to Twitter after the game to declare Rose Bernadou’s challenge on her at the Twickenham Stoop the ‘tackle of the tournament’.

Cleall was not the only England player who took to social media, though, with England skipper Sarah Hunter praising her teammates for their “unbelievable effort” on Saturday.

England’s final game was live on the main BBC network for the first time ever and journalist Jessica Hayden captured the huge interest in the showdown with France.

Maro Itoje knows a thing or two about what it takes to win a Championship and the England and Saracens lock was one of the first to congratulate the Red Roses on their success.

Meanwhile, Caroline Boujard is one of three players up for this year’s Women’s Six Nations Player of the Championship and she tweeted her delight at being nominated.

Scotland finished their Championship on a high with victory over Wales in the fifth-place play-off and head coach Bryan Easson thanked his country’s supporters on Twitter.

While Wales finished their first Women’s Six Nations under Warren Abrahams with a third defeat, injured captain Siwan Lillicrap had words of encouragement for her side.
