The Azzurri arrived in Cardiff off the back of a hefty defeat to Ireland, chasing their first ever victory in Wales in the Championship but any hopes of ending that drought swiftly disappeared.

Rhys Webb got the hosts off to a flying start before half-back partner Dan Biggar, who racked up 21 points in total, got in on the act.

Centre duo Jonathan Davies and Jamie Roberts extended the advantage before a superb George North finish made it five unanswered tries.

The answer arrived through Guglielmo Palazzani and Gonzalo Garcia but Liam Williams crossed over between those two - indeed only Hallam Amos from the Welsh starting back line didn't score - and Moriarty made it seven.

Italy - missing a handful of players through injury - simply couldn't cope with the power of Warren Gatland's side and Moriarty and Gareth Davies crossed over in the dying stages as the Azzurri conceded nine tries for the second consecutive game.

Webb made in instant impact on his return to the starting XV with the opening try on five minutes. Italy struggled to deal with an early chip kick and, following the resulting lineout, the scrum-half wriggled his way through to touch down.

Biggar added the extras and had the home crowd on its feet shortly after with a superb kick-and-chase from inside his own half and.

And the fly-half stretched the lead to ten on the quarter-hour mark after Sergio Parisse, mopping up after a loose David Odiete pass, was penalised for not releasing.

Biggar continued to keep the pressure on North chasing his kick to the corner to put Odiete under immense pressure before Palazzani earned himself a yellow card for not retreating.

He added three more points after Martin Castrogiovanni - winning his 119^th cap - was caught offside, while a faltering lineout kept the Azzurri under pressure.

Biggar struck again shortly before the half-hour, picking a gaping hole in the Italian line, exchanging a one-two with Roberts, dotting down unchallenged and converting.

And they didn't have to wait long for a third, running from deep as North dashed down the touchline and passed inside to Biggar. He found Davies and duly converted the centre's try under the posts.

Wales began the second half as they ended the third and, after 20 phases, they sent the ball wide to the right for Roberts to cross over, though Biggar's perfect record from the tee came to an end.

Odiete took it upon himself to try and hit back, weaving his way into Welsh territory, but the offload went begging and they were soon further behind.

A dummy run from Roberts created a gap for North and the winger powered towards the line for his fourth try in as many games, Biggar converting.

Leonardo and Jacopo Sarto combined to reinvigorate the Azzurri's hunt for their first point. Once again the final pass went begging but they regrouped and Palazzani went over at the back of a rolling maul. Kelly Haimona converted.

That did little to set back the hosts, though, as Williams finished off another flowing move shortly before the hour mark, stepping inside his man and reaching for the line, while Biggar converted.

The second-half see-saw continued when Allan committed three defenders and offloaded to Garcia to score - two more points for Haimona - and Moriarty benefited from a dominant rolling maul to hit back with his first international try.

Rhys Priestland converted expertly from out wide before Moriarty powered over and Davies finished off a flowing score late on to wrap things up and ensure head coach Jacques Brunel's Azzurri farewell was not a happy one.
